There are more cheap cabins in Yosemite than there are luxury log cabins, both in Yosemite Valley and elsewhere in the park. The cheap variety of cabin in the park is invariably a tent/cabin hybrid, which features concrete walls and a canvas roof and can be pretty cold outside summer. There are many campgrounds dotted around Yosemite that have this type of accommodation, but unfortunately they get snapped up fast so invariably have to be booked in advance.
Demand for cheap cabins in Yosemite is very high throughout the year and especially from May through September. DNC Parks & Resorts are the main body for booking cabins in Yosemite, including Curry Village, Housekeeping Camp at Yosemite Valley, and White Wolf Lodge, which have the cheapest cabins. You can also book the more expensive Ahwahnee, Yosemite Lodge at the Falls, and the Wawona Hotel with DNC. Most operations outside the park can be booked directly online.
Popular cabins in Yosemite
Curry Village: One of the best known and best priced accommodation options in Yosemite, this 100-plus year old campground features cabins, hotels rooms and tents. It is right in the center of Yosemite - virtually underneath Half Dome and Glacier Point - and is well priced. Those looking to save should aim for one of the 319 canvas tents, while proper cabins with shared bath are also reasonably priced.
Housekeeping Camp: This campground is much like Curry Village and is well established. It sits on the Merced River and has more than 260 units which can each hour up to six people, making it particularly cost-effective for those on a budget. There is a double bed and two bunks and a bear-proof food locker, yet minimal facilities in general. A shower/toilet block is centrally located.
White Wolf Lodge: Located a long way from Yosemite Village, toward Tioga Pass at the east entrance, White Wolf is another of the budget campgrounds and comes with a glut of cheap cabins of the concrete wall and canvas roof variety.
Tuolumne Meadows Lodge: Located up near White Wolf in the High Sierra region off Tioga Pass Road, this is another cheaper cabin alternative.
Cheap cabins outside Yosemite: There are many options outside of Yosemite, including at Oakhurst (south) and Groveland (west). The closest option to the park entrance is the popular Sunset Inn.
Booking cabins in Yosemite
When booking cheap cabins in Yosemite, it pays to do it as far in advance as allowable. The various campgrounds have strict rules and regs for booking, but you can do so five months in advance. Campgrounds that take reservations in Yosemite must be done by calling +1 877 444 6777.
If this is no good for you and you’re not sure when you can travel, there are also many cheap cabins in Yosemite that are available on a first-come, first-served basis. White Wolf and Tuolumne Meadows are among those where you can turn up and book, although you will need to do so way before noon. Once you get signed in, you can stay extra nights by simply signing before checkout time the next morning.
