There is a huge amount of accommodation in Yosemite National Park and big demand to go with it. Most accommodation Yosemite Park centers on Yosemite Village where there are hotels, cabins, campsites, and lodges. Many of these are bookable through the National Park Service (NPS), with more exclusive cabins usually private enterprises and vacation rentals. Wherever you stay, booking May through September is a must.

Accommodation types in Yosemite

Yosemite Hotels: Usually the priciest accommodation option but generally having the best rooms and facilities. There are only a handful of full-blown hotels in Yosemite and they can be booked up months in advance. The Ahwahnee is the top accommodation Yosemite Park. It is a triple-A place with fantastic rooms and façade and is located within view of Half Dome and Glacier Point. Yosemite Lodge at the Falls is another top hotel and near Yosemite Falls. It is not quite as plush as Ahwahnee, but nevertheless has good rooms and facilities. The other main hotel is Wawona. It is most popular with those looking for peace and quiet and resides down in the south of the park near the Badger Pass ski area.

Yosemite Lodges: The best lodges, in the true sense of the word, are positioned outside of Yosemite Valley and up in High Sierra country to take full advantage of the wilderness. There are two main lodging operations up here - White Wolf Lodge and Tuolumne Meadows Lodge – although they mainly cater to hikers and those on lower budgets, with their tent cabin hybrids.

Yosemite Cabins: There are two types of cabin accommodation Yosemite Park; the luxury variety favored by couples, and those that appeal to campers. The latter number in their hundreds and can be found at lodging operations all over the park. They consist of concrete walls and canvas roofs and are typically cheap. They can be found chiefly at Curry Village and Housekeeping Camp, which are both close to Yosemite Village in Yosemite Valley, and at the various High Sierra camps up on Tioga Pass Road. Luxury cabins can be found at some of the main hotels and also through vacation rentals.

Yosemite Camping: Yosemite caters more to campers than any other type of visitor and there are numerous campsites available. Curry Village and Housekeeping Camp have the easiest camping options for those with or without tents, while the High Sierra camps of Tuolumne Meadows Lodge and White Wolf Lodge have good options for those into hiking. Other camping options include Upper Pines, Lower Pines, and North Pines, Camp 4 for rock climbers, and Wawona Hotel for campers in the south. In addition, backcountry camping is possible but you cannot pitch a tent anywhere without a permit.

Inns and B&Bs: You will have to look outside Yosemite for traditional bed and breakfasts and inns as most similar operations within the park are vacation rentals with whole cottages and lodges to rent. The towns and communities near the park’s entrances are the best bet for inns and B&Bs, including at Fish Camp, Oakhurst, Mariposa, Groveland, El Portal, and Mammoth Lakes.

Yosemite Rentals: They are located throughout the park and are commercial operations that can often be booked online. Vacation rentals in Yosemite are generally in the high-end bracket and include lodges, cabins, and complete homes in all areas.
